Music of the American Revolution

On October 1, 2026, as part of the REV250 celebration, the Beacon Historical Society sponsored a spirited program on the roots of American music by Manley Roberts ‘83 JD. Roberts, a musician who has extensive knowledge of Revolutionary war battles, led several fun singalongs and gave the back history to classic tunes such as “Yankee Doodle” and “The World Turned Upside Down” (as heard in the musical “Hamilton”).

Elizabeth Barrett MPPM ‘86 and Beacon Mayor Lee Kyriacou MA ‘79 MPhil ‘82 JD ‘84 introduced Roberts, who lives in Charlotte, NC and was a classmate of the mayor’s at Yale Law School.
